Colorado Springs Realtors – A Champion’s Guide To Winning Under Pressure

In his newly released book entitled, “Don’t Choke…A Champion’s Guide To Winning Under Pressure,” Gary Player, icon and legend of golf, laments about his mental make-up as a champion of business and life.

Yesterday morning, Cherise and I were watching the acclaimed ESPN “Mike and Mike in the Morning Show.” One of their guests was Gary Player. Before I continue, you must understand that Cherise really doesn’t like any sports. And I on the other hand, thoroughly engross myself in nearly every sport, golf being my favorite.

To my surprise, Cherise said that she loved what Gary Player had to say about suffering as God's plan, overcoming obstacles and what it took to succeed when the pressure is greatest.

So I thought I’d share his (10) fundamentals which he lives by for his business and personal life.

  • Change is the price of survival.
  • Everything in business is negotiable except quality.
  • A promise made is a debt incurred.
  • For all we take in life we must pay.
  • Persistence and common sense are more important than intelligence.
  • The fox fears not the man who boasts by night but the man who rises early in the morning.
  • Accept the advice of those who love you, though you like it not at present.
  • Trust instinct to the end, though you cannot render any reason.
  • The heights of great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.
  • There is no substitute for personal contact.

While you might differ from Gary Player, this list is pretty much common sense and encourages each one of us to build a strong foundation for our lives. Player states, “The strength of your foundation determines the heights of your success.”

I'm not a big golf fan but this sounds like a book I would like.  My favorite was "Persistence and common sense are more important than intelligence."

Marchel,

I'm not a golf fan either.  But my husband - Gordon - is an avid fan.  Gary Player seemed like a quality guy with quality things to say.

I like Gary's fundamentals and although they are are all very good, I like the one about trusting your instincts.  When we trust our instincts, things usually work out.
